1962 amphicar model 770

Very rare Amphicar and always appreciated by those who get to see them! Only 3,878 of these amphibious cars were ever produced making them an excellent collection piecesand future investment! Many have been swallowed up by museums throughout the world to forever been seen as simple conversation pieces. Even our President Lyndon B. Johnson owned one that is now on display at his historical LBJ Ranch!!

In 1962, an American auto manufacture joined up with a German manufacture to produce the first factory built, public dual-purpose vehicle for land and water use. The company was Amphicar and the Model 770 was born. It was a street legal convertible, and a water ready boat all in one! Manufactured in small quantities each year from 1961 through 1965, only 3,878 were said to have been built when manufacturing stopped. The balance of the inventory continued to be sold through 1968 so some examples bear a production model year of when they were first registered. They are all extremely rare and highly prized collectibles.

We are very proud to offer this exceptional 1962 Amphicar Model 770 finished in Regatta Red with White/Red interior and White convertible top. This fully operational example comes with only 30,913 original miles and has been beautifully maintained and only utilized sparingly over the years! Options include the original, number's matching Triumph 1147cc OHV 4 cylinder engine with single Solex carburetor, 4-speed fully sychromesh manual transmission, heater with defrost, MotoMeter gauges, polished wheel covers, 6.50-13” Coker Classic 2.25” whitewall tires, and dual rear propellers! It will come complete with owner's manual, maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, spare tire, fire extinguisher, 4 life preservers, two throwables, and two T-handle hood & trunk lock keys. It is all ready for water use with water certification maintained by the same Maine owners for the last 33 years! Although it was last registered for official water use in 2012 according to the registration sticker on the windshield.

It has been professionally repainted in the past with beautiful results that continue to impress today! The chrome brightwork appears to be original with only the slightly of age visible, and what appears to be an untouched original interior with exception to the floor matting. It was properly maintained and stored in a heated garage each year. Within the past month it has been treated to refinished wheels, brand new tires, new convertible top, all new brake cylinders and bleed of the braking system, fresh valve cover gasket, flushed fuel tank and tuning of the carburetor! The rubber axle tunnel bellows appear to have been replaced recently and remain in excellent condition. It also possesses a commercial duty marine grade 'Water Puppy' ballast bilge pump by Jabsco. We replaced the radio antenna, stainless steel bilge pump spout, and chrome exhaust tip with flange to further freshen the exterior appearance.

This is an extremely rare, early production Amphicar that is well worth the investment! These extraordinary cars appear on the market every so often, but to find one with such low mileage, excellent color combination, and is completely ready to enjoy make it ultra special! Don't miss this chance to own a rare piece of the automobile history! Please call with any questions. We can help with shipping for our international buyers.
