Introduced in 1959 as coupe utility vehicles, the El Camino was essentially a sedan front end mated with a utility bed on a General Motors wagon chassis to create a versatile pickup. It would come in 5 generations of styling changes with the final iteration spanning from 1978 through 1987. These final versions came on the GM G-body platform with a few engine choices and numerous accessory options, with the Super Sport still considered the top level model. Only 996 Z-15 Super Sport examples would be produced in 1986, and just 861 their final production year.
We are very happy to present this custom 1986 Chevrolet El Camino SS now finished in Bright Yellow Pearl Coat over Dark Gray Leather interior! Under the hood lies its original 5.0L 305ci V8 engine and console-shifted 700R4 4-speed overdrive transmission. Options and features include air conditioning, power windows & locks, AM/FM/Cassette radio, tilt steering column, custom bucket seat with power driver adjustment, day/night mirror, carpeted floor mats, full dash instrumentation, passenger vanity mirror, and tinted window glass.
This truck originated from the Arizona area before the family moved it back to their Michigan home in approximately 1995. Once there, the owner would ask Randy Church Restorations in St. Charles, MI to perform a complete strip and repaint from the factory black exterior color to a radiant yellow with a light metallic pearl topcoat. Nothing was to be left overlooked or untouched in the process to achieve nothing short of show quality results. The process began in June 1996 and after 644-man hours of stripping, body perfecting, priming, block sanding, adding color, pearl clearcoat, and pinstriping, the results still look outstanding today! The interior would receive some enhanced seats and personal touches of color. The rear truck box would not be left out receiving real wood slats, and later in 2008, the addition of a Gaylord's Inc. Kustom Fiberglass Bed Cover painted to match.
It would be shown locally and driven regularly during fair weather days only, now showing 96,758 miles on the odometer. Always routinely maintained with oil changes and regular servicing as required. More recently, it received brand new 15” Rally style wheels, trim rings, and center caps along with new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires in 2023 measuring 225/60R15 up front and 235/70R15 at the rear. It is a terrific example of an El Camino SS that has set itself apart from the rest. Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule your chance to see it firsthand. These special Chevrolets represent a small portion of the classic car market that can still be purchased and enjoyed for a very reasonable monetary investment. Act quickly!
