American Motors Corporation seemed to feel a little left out of the “Pony Car” race with the unbelievable success of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro leading the way. They decided to bring their own design to the market in 1968 as the new Javelin! They packed in new safety features to allure the insurance companies, but loaded up on the power options as well to make the horsepower junkies could be satisfied as well! It proved to be a great design and lead AMC to success at the race track as well! By 1970, the brand new, one-year only design paved the way for Roger Penske (Penske Racing owner) to help Mark Donohue (hall of fame driver) to great SCCA Trans Am series success for the next 6 straight years! It placed second in 1970, and first place the next three out of five years! This was up against cars like the Mustang Boss 302, Camaro Z/28, and Plymouth Cuda AAR!
