Unveiled on January 6th of 1997 the new 5th generation Corvette(C5) was the first GM vehicle to feature the 3rd generation small block “LS” engine. This new generation Corvette featured a hydroformed box frame which eliminated the flex under spirited driving conditions, pop-up headlights for the last time, and the transmission was relocated to form an integrated, rear-mounted transaxle assembly which connected to the LS1 engine with a torque tube. This new set-up allowed for a 50-50% front to rear weight distribution along with Chevrolets new active handling system debut this all combined to improve handling greatly. The automatics carried over the 4L60E transmission from previous generations, but the manuals received a new Borg-Warner T-56 6-speed transaxle which was capable of 175 MPH. This generation of Corvette ended production on July 2, 2004, to make way for the next new Corvettes.
In 2003, it marked a special year for Chevrolet and their beloved Corvette as it would celebrate its 50th year in production and released a special anniversary edition to highlight the occasion. These special edition Corvettes featured a one year only red paint job that was a burgundy look with aluminum-oxide flakes under a special tinted clear coat. They showcased new sport seats with 50th anniversary headrest embroidery & exterior badging, champagne painted 5-spoke allow wheels, and the exciting new Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension. This new suspension was quite unique and was designed with magneto-rheological fluid that can change its consistency and effect shock damping instantly by receiving data from the sensors on each wheel and the signal from a special electromagnetic coil inside the shock itself.
We are proud to offer this 2003 Chevrolet Corvette 50th Anniversary Edition Convertible finished in its exclusive eye-catching Anniversary Red exterior paint with a Shale convertible top and Shale interior with leather embroidered seats. Under the hood sits a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces a powerful and responsive 350 horsepower with 360 lb.-ft of torque and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Along with the special badging and anniversary edition equipment, this Corvette also features heads-up display, power telescoping steering column, electrochromatic mirrors, power front seats, memory package, power locks & windows, fog lamps, 4-wheel ABS disc brakes, cruise control, MSRC suspension, 50th Anniversary carpet and rubber floor mats and 5-spoke wheels with high performance Michelin Pilot Sport Plus tires measuring 245/45R17 in the front and 275/40R18 in the rear.
These anniversary editions always make for great collectible cars, and with only 27,763 miles on the odometer, this is a low mileage example of a wonderfully kept piece of history. Recently received an oil & oil filter change and check over by our museum and is ready for delivery! This Corvette comes with its original owner's manual, and an extra set of keys and fob.
