First designed and produced by the Rootes Group from 1953-1955, and again from 1959-1968, the Sunbeam Alpine is a two-seater sports roadster/drophead coupe that rivaled MG and Austin-Healey. This was the first vehicle from the company to solely bear the Sunbeam name as the company changed hands from Clement-Talbot to the Rootes Group and then later to Chrysler by 1967. Even though Sunbeam held a well-established reputation for their reliability and durability, and the Alpine being featured in movies and TV including the hit series “Get Smart”, they are still known as one of the best kept secrets in the British sports car world. Multiple series were produced and even a muscle car variant called the Sunbeam Tiger saw success and still today have dedicated parts suppliers and enthusiast clubs.

The Series V Sunbeam Alpines would be the last of the models built from 1965-1968 and featured many improvements over the previous models. This final series gave owners what they wanted and that was more horsepower! These new Alpines featured an inline four cylinder that now displaced 1,725cc thanks to its longer stroke and five main bearings which made the engine even sturdier. This sporty 4-cylinder breathed through twin Stromberg carburetors and featured a tubular exhaust manifold, an oil cooler, negative ground electrical system and self-adjusting rear drum brakes. The interior now showcased footwell air vents and the transmission was fitted with overdrive, and it became a true sportscar now capable of 100mph.

We are proud to offer this 1967 Sunbeam Alpine Convertible finished in Carnival Red with a Black vinyl interior that is in great shape with new black carpeting. Powering this sports car is an inline 4-cylinder that produces 93 horsepower and 103 lbs. ft. of torque and mated to a 4-speed manual transmission which makes for quite a quick and sporty ride for a car of this weight and size! This Sunbeam Alpine features a brand new black cloth soft top with a vinyl boot cover, dual side mirrors, chrome bumpers, Sherwood AM/FM cassette radio, Jaeger gauges, trip meter, fold up center armrest, glove compartment, adjustable seating, and 13” Minilite wheels wrapped in Maxxis MA-202 radial tires. Its original top and carpeting are included along with a spare tire and jack equipment.

Showing only 49,801 miles on the odometer, this vehicle is in great running shape as a previous owner had the engine rebuilt in 2012 with receipts to show the work performed including hot tanking the engine block along with boring and line honing, replacing valve springs, new cam, starter ring, clutch & pressure plate, valve job, cam bearings, cam shaft end plug, main bearings, rod bearings, clutch slave & master cylinder kit, piston with rings, gasket seat and thermostat housing. Since its arrival at our museum in May of 2023, we have continued to care for this Alpine and have installed new e brake cable, pinion seal, rebuilt fuel pump, new air filter, air cleaner hose, lower and upper end gaskets as needed, changed oil & filter, installed a new aluminum radiator, valve cover gasket, and fresh exhaust gaskets.

The former owners were in poor health when they finally decided to sell it on, and being such a delight to drive, we are excited to offer the next collector the opportunity to give it more deserving road time than it has seen in the past several years.
