1964 triumph tr4

The Triumph TR4 is an ideal sports car that was produced from 1961 to 1965 that resided on the same chassis as its TR3 predecessor but had quite a modern design body makeover done by Michelotti. Carrying over the same tried and true engine from the TR2 & TR3, these new Triumph TR4s took it one step further and increased the bore size of the engine which added a nice jump in horsepower. Not stopping at just added power, the new TR4 also showcased roll up windows in place of side-curtains, a wider front and rear track, rack & pinion steering and full synchromesh on all forward gears. This sporty driver was not just for hugging the corners on the public roadways, but also saw some success on the racetracks and even continues to do so as a TR4 won a SCCA class championship in 1991!

We are excited to offer this 1964 Triumph TR4 convertible finished in original factory color Wedgewood Blue exterior paint with a black vinyl top and midnight blue vinyl interior with white piping around the seats. Powering this British sports car is an 2138cc inline 4-cylinder with dual SU carburetors that produces a stout 100 horsepower and 127lbs-ft of torque and is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. This TR4 features roll up windows, folding top, power front disc brakes, chrome bumpers, windshield washer, Motorola transistor radio, Jaeger and Lucas gauges, heater & ventilation controls, 15” steel wheels with hub caps wrapped in GT radial tires measuring 185/55R15 and a spare tire.

Previously titled in North Carolina, this Triumph was purchased in July of 1970 by a Tennessee owner who would maintain it and drive sparingly for over 50 years until it would join us here at the museum in late 2022. This TR4 comes with its original owner's handbook and recent receipts of repairs. In 2019, the previous owner installed a new fan belt, fan blade, drain plug, bonnet release kit, wizard alloy radiator, battery box liner, and a radiator hose set all done by the Triumph specialists at the Roadster Factory in Springfield, TN. It would rest in the garage again until 2022 when a mechanic friend of the previous owner continued efforts on his TR4 by replacing brake hoses, front brake calipers, brake master cylinder, timing chain, water pump, water temp sending unit and the thermostat. Sadly, after his passing it would be acquired by our museum, and we would make the final improvements to make this sportster the fine driving machine it is today. Our service department rebuilt the starter, replaced the starter solenoid, ignition wire set, spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor, point & condenser set, fuel pump & fuel sending unit, replaced the transmission and differential fluids, replaced door & trunk hinge gaskets, interior control knobs, taillight assembly, control arm bushings, and upper ball joints.

This Triumph has been wonderfully cared for and is in great shape to cruise around and enjoy with the top down. A very original TR4 that will have import enthusiasts excited and anyone who's looking for a sporty ride will be quick to get inside. Thank you for your interest and please contact us directly or schedule a visit to our showroom for a closer look.
