Deemed the New Design Series, the GMC light duty assortment of trucks were very similar to the Chevrolet Advance Design units introduced in 1947 and carried through 1955. They were bigger, stronger, and more appealing visually. Today, they remain exceptionally popular and make for terrific platforms to renew with modern features so they can better keep up on today's streets and highways.
Offered here is a 1951 GMC 1/2-ton Panel Delivery Truck that was restored to a gorgeous, full custom that really hits the streets with excellent looks and ideal road manners! Under the hood lies a rebuilt 1973 date-coded 350ci V8 mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission and later generation 1957 rear axle fitted with AA-3.55:1 gearing. The custom features and accessories are abundant and were superbly executed throughout the entire truck! These include cold Vintage Air conditioning, Mustang II independent front suspension with power disc brakes, front sway bar, and power-assisted rack & pinion steering; power windows, power locks with remote key fob entry, power leather seats with manual lumbar support, new tinted window glass, windshield sun visor, dual outside mirrors, tilt steering column with custom billet aluminum steering wheel, folding center armrest with storage compartment & cupholders, rear roof mounted 3rd brake light, custom Jensen audio system with Bluetooth, navigation, and rearview camera!
Completed in approximately 2012 while with a former Indiana owner, it has now traveled 5,760 miles according to the new gauges by Dolphin. The interior cabin was uniquely designed to incorporate a rear partition panel and additional rear bench seat. This allowed for additional occupants to cruise along while retaining a separate enclosed rear cargo area. All seating areas have seatbelts at the ready, and two custom oak storage boxes are waiting in the back to hold any emergency essentials for longer journeys. The body is remarkably solid and straight, with excellent paint considering it is nearing 10 years old already. All panels and running boards remain steel, and even the cowl and body side fresh air vents were left fully functional. The GMC emblems were treated to a faux gold flake effect, and the body received a full double pinstripe in silver and light gold.
Even underneath, the car shows very well with zero rust concerns. A new 16-gallon steel gas tank by Tanks Inc., suspension components, and full welded Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust system really highlight the level of expense this special Panel Delivery received! It originally rode on chrome 15” Cragar S/S mags with whitewall tires that were later swapped for 20” Boss Motorsport wheels measuring 245/35ZR20 up front and 275/35ZR20 at the rear. It should be noted that the front wheels do rub under sharp maneuvering situations like positioning it in our showroom but does just fine during normal driving conditions. It is otherwise a very difficult truck to critique! All power features are working as they should be due to an all new EZ Wiring harness and modern fuse panel. The exterior lighting, as well as the interior courtesy lighting, were converted to modern LED for optimum visibility! All the weather stripping and exterior brightwork were renewed in the restoration process as well.
We encourage all prospective buyers to consider having inspections completed immediately! Restomods of this caliber and price range rarely last very long! It also represents a great body style to promote a private brand or company logo on the side making for a special opportunity for you business owners out there! Please feel welcome to call with questions or to schedule a chance to review it closer in person!
