One of the most dominant players on the horsepower scene since its inception in the late 1950s has been the Chevrolet Impala and its SS variants. Defined as “a prestige car within the reach of the average American”, the Impala enjoyed instant success from its introduction in 1958. One of the true incarnations of the “long and low” design philosophy and one of the first, true American muscle cars as it entered the 1960's. They are now well established in the collector car world as roomy luxurious classics that can be driven and enjoyed with plenty of passenger space! By 1963, some revisions to the body included a unique, creased roof line, aluminum engine-turned rear taillight panel, and new instrument panel pod with optional tachometer on the steering column. As with all Impalas before it, you could order them in just about any configuration you could dream up!
We are offering a very solid 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS Sport Coupe that has been refinished in Ember Red (originally Palomar Red) over all original Black vinyl interior! This special example retains its factory appointed, number's matching 327ci/250hp V8 engine, Borg Warner T-10 4-speed manual transmission, and 3.36:1 rear axle. Options and features include Super Sport equipment with bucket seats, center console, full SS wheel covers, power steering, dealer installed air conditioning, all tinted glass, pushbutton AM radio, whitewall tires, day/night rearview mirror, and under dash mounted Stewart Warner gauges for optimum engine monitoring.
This Impala Sport Coupe survives brilliantly solid and can only be truly appreciated for its structural preservation upon closer inspection! Everywhere you look remains as the factory put it together, from the spot welds, body crimp points, factory floors, smooth frame rails, and overall gap fitment of the panels and closure of all hinged components! It was repainted once in the distant past and is still easily considered better than driver quality today but does show some age in select areas. The interior remains very tidy for an original, unrestored Impala with a very clean presentation overall!
