History About The Shelby Mustang Super Snake:
When Ford Motor Company invited Hertz and Carroll Shelby to rejoin forces for an anniversary edition Rent-A-Racer program in 2006, it was clear that good things were about to happen! Not only was this program a wonderful success, it helped Ford executives to realize that SVT Mustang fans were indeed ready for Shelby's resurrection with a return of the Mustang GT500. It seemed all but inevitable, but the process began slowly with a mildly modified Shelby GT version for 2007 that included body enhancements, suspension upgrades, along with performance engine tuning and exhaust system. These GT cars were special in the fact that they were delivered to Shelby Automobiles Inc. in Las Vegas for their transformation, just like the originals were in the 1960's. When the Shelby GT500 production began, all were individually built at the Ford production plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. That is, unless you wanted a Super Snake. Carroll Shelby opted to do what he does best, find more horsepower and further refine the production Mustang to peak performance!
Make no mistake about it. The Shelby Super Snake would transform into the baddest version of the Mustang on the planet! Never was a Mustang offered with more ground-pounding horsepower or track ready performance! Production would be limited, and still today represent some of the most unique Shelby investments one can make. Especially because he was still around to participate amongst the skilled staff during the production process. Each car would receive the following:
Super Snake 427 Package:
• Ford Racing 5.4L 32-valve aluminum V8 with Kenne Bell supercharger upgrade suppling 12psi of boost through a high flow intake & air filter, intercooler, and special Shelby tune to produce 725+ horsepower/590 lb. ft. or torque.
• Ford Racing 6-speed short throw manual transmission, Dynatech aluminum 3.5” one-piece driveshaft, and 3.73 limited slip rear axle gearing
• Borla stainless steel cat-back exhaust system
• Shelby/Eibach performance suspension system with coil-over adjustable dampening, lowering springs, tuned front & rear stabilizer bars, and engine strut tower brace
• Shelby-designed Alcoa 20” forged alloy wheels
• Baer 6-piston brakes with oversized rotors fitted with front & rear cooling ducts
• Custom carbon composite hood along with carbon fiber front fascia splitter, rocker panels, and mirror covers
• S-H-E-L-B-Y vehicle badging on the hood and decklid
• Special Super Snake emblems, serialized number plates, billet engine components, and vehicle striping
• Embroidered headrests, floor mats, arm rest, special gauges, dash plaques, sill plates, map light surround
Already uniquely hand-crafted in Las Vegas, a special version was offered in conjunction with the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Shelby Automobiles' one-year NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race sponsorship. The race would be scheduled for March 1st, 2009 and become known as the “Shelby 427." The traditional 400-mile race with lengthened to 427 miles for the first and only time to honor Carroll. Designers at the Shelby facility quickly went to work offering current owners of a 2007 or 2008 Super Snake the option to join a waiting list to purchase 1 of only 427 unique packages to not just attend the Shelby 427 NASCAR race, but have their cars uniquely outfitted with limited edition Las Vegas Motor Speedway Pace Car emblems, a signed plaque by Carroll Shelby on the fuse box & interior sun visor, special floor mats, and other event-related add-ons!
