1950 willys overland jeepster phaeton

For sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is a nicely appointed final year Willys-Overland Jeepster with a 6 cylinder Lightning engine, along with, a 3-speed overdrive transmission! This classic Willys has been accessorized with a spotlight, reverse light, Motorola AM radio, cloth top with side curtains, and reverse lamp! Wonderful cruiser in a great color!

Breif History About The Willys-Overland Jeepster:
Post war Willys-Overland designers had the task of leading the company who was looking for a way to bring their once military Jeep products to the civilian marketplace. Without any sophisticated tooling in place to redesign their already tested & true product line, they simply decided to add accessories to make them more user friendly. One very unique exception would be a sporty, highly optioned Jeepster introduced to the market in 1948 by automobile stylist Brooks Stevens. It would be the last Phaeton design, due to utilizing side curtains in place of roll up windows, that any USA auto maker would produce ever again. Featuring a traditional slab sided body with flat fenders, this new Jeepster would incorporate luxurious features more commonly found on mainstream automobiles. These included white sidewall tires, hubcaps with trim rings, deluxe steering wheel, sun visors, locking glove box, cigar lighter, just to name a few. Produced only 3 years, it would only the final year that would be offered with revisions to the original design. This design featured a new front V-shaped grill with horizontal chrome bars, and a new dash layout with fresh instrumentation. Further yet, the 4 & 6 cylinder engine options were mildly changed through slightly larger displacement. These 1950 examples will always be the most collectible of the series!

Details About Our Available Willys-Overland Jeepster:
We are proud to offer for sale a 1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster finished in a gorgeous Nassau Cream and Gloss Black two-tone combination with black textured vinyl interior and Stayfast cloth top and side curtains to match! Being a late unit, it possesses a 148.5ci Inline 6 cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed standard transmission with overdrive. Features on this cosmetically restored unit include full dash instrumentation with tachometer, heater/defrost, rear-mounted continental spare tire with cloth cover, aluminum fender steps, Coker Classic 6.70-15 wide whitewall tires, cowl ventilation, single outside mirror, Motorola Volumatic AM radio, reverse light, unity spotlight, dual horns and visors. Added to this Jeepster are turn signals & front seat belts for extra safety, along with, an electric fuel pump for easier starts.

Our car presents an older restoration to a rust free body with re-plated chrome bumpers, superbly fitted convertible top, side curtains, and an interior now fitted with padded carpeting for improved cabin sound and comfort. Under the hood you will find a beautifully running engine with an improved Zenith Bendix carburetor, traditional air cleaner assembly, and AutoLite generator charging system plus distributor. Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, it received a completely new braking system to include new brake master cylinder, new drum, new shoes, wheel cylinders, along with, new rear wheel studs and nuts. Our expert team also rebuilt the front spindles with new kingpins and bushings, replaced the rear spring shackles, fuel sending unit, and brake light switch, along with a new voltage regular, generator brushes, battery cables, radiator cap, and fresh engine coolant and oil. Although it is showing an odometer reading of 46,759 miles, we will be selling this vehicle mileage exempt. Representing one of only 5,836 Jeepsters produced in 1950, and even fewer with a 6 cylinder under the hood, this presents a rare opportunity to own a very nicely surviving example today! Please feel free to call with any additional questions or schedule a chance to see it in person. Thanks for your interest!
