1974 volkswagen thing

A wonderful find at a truly reasonable price!  This very solid VW Type 181 is loaded with all the right attributes and is mechanically ready to enjoy immediately!  Whether you are looking for a superb driver for a beach getaway or one ready to improve to original, factory standards, this example fulfills any requirements!

This final year 1974 Volkswagen Thing is believed to be an original Acapulco Edition still finished in correct White exterior with a matching White & Blue piped interior!  No longer fitted with a stripped bimini top, but instead fitted with an auxiliary fiberglass hardtop instead!  The body is in remarkable condition with the factory weld and rivet marks easily visible just about everywhere you look!  Powered by an AM-code 1600cc horizontally-opposed 4 cylinder with single PICT-3 style carburetor and 4-speed manual transmission!  Options include EMPI short throw shifter, quad-tipped exhaust system, alternator charging, front & rear seatbelts, folding windshield with washer, 2-speed wipers, dual exterior mirrors, chromed bumpers, updated 15” steel wheels with newer BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised white letter tires, and heater/defrost!  Accessories include Pioneer AM/FM/CD player with 2 door speakers, and fully carpeted interior with rubber floor mats!

This Thing is an extremely sharp example that is ready to be enjoyed immediately!  It was exclusively serviced in Ohio by Volkswagen specialists German Autowerks while with its former owner through March 2015.  This included routine inspections, valve adjustments, oil changes, and tune ups.  It received all new front & rear brake cylinders & shoes in September 2013 along with new alternator, and a fresh progressive carburetor in May 2013. The exterior body has been repainted in the distant past and continues to be of a driver quality standard, along with a cosmetically restored interior with some improvements to add additional comfort and sound insulation.  The paint found under the hood & trunk remains all original.  Since March of 2015, it has been owned and maintained by a local St. Louis Blues hockey star, and always garage kept.  It will come with recent service records dating back to August 2012 along with factory side curtains, and original gear jack but no spare tire.  It will be sold mileage exempt.  Please feel free to call with any questions or additional photo requests.  Thanks for looking!
