The XKE series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it appeared at the automotive seen in 1961! As each new generation was improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to the buyers as the prestigious luxury sports car from England! This included improved brakes, better suspension, superior interior comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement engines! By 1971, the short wheel base offering was long gone in favor of a quality ride, and power steering was now a standard feature. The Series III was born with a V12 with quad Zenith-Stromberg carburetion under the bonnet, and only 7,990 convertibles were produced over the entire four year production!
We are delighted to offer this 1973 Jaguar XKE Series III convertible finished in Primrose Yellow over beautifully kept Black Leather interior! Options include number matching 5.3L V12 engine producing a powerful 272 horsepower,4-speed synchromesh manual transmission, factory air conditioning, chrome 72-spoke 15 wire spoke wheels with Michelin Radial 1 whitewall tires, telescoping steering column, leather steering wheel & shift knob, British Leyland AM/FM radio, quad tip chrome exhaust, European style rear bumper guards, remote driver side rearview mirror, and more! Standard options included a responsive4-wheel independent suspension with matching disc brakes at all four corners!
This wonderfully original example hails from the Reno, NV area when Robert M. Lee purchased it with 12,512 actual miles in June 1993. It would not trade hands again until joining the Evergreen Historical Automobile collection in February 2005.They would add just 429 miles to the odometer in their 13 years of curatorship, showing only 12,941 original miles today!
Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, we would change all engine fluids, engine air filters, all 12 spark plugs, ball joint suspension boots, transmission spring bushing, door sill seals, brake fluid sensor, and clean & adjust the carburetors. It has been repainted professional once in its lifetime, along with a new convertible top, but the interior appointments remain all original and in remarkable condition! It starts, runs, and drives with great bravado and that pure Jaguar sound from the exhaust! The brakes and throttle are equally responsive for spirited drives, or comfortable cruising on Sunday mornings! Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule an opportunity to see this vehicle in person.
