A rare and desirable car!Introduced in April of 1932, Henry Ford's new V-8 proved to be aninstant success. The new 1932 Fords featured a completelyredesigned chassis powered by a new, V-8 engine. Although the 1932Fords were mechanically upgraded, the body and fenders were verysimilar in appearance to the Model A that it replaced. For 1933,Edsel Ford wanted a more graceful design to replace the 1932models. Based on E.T. Gregorie's British Model Y concept, a newmodel, called the Model 40 made its introduction in 1933. The new1933 Fords featured a lower bodyline with a slanted windshield andfront opening doors, often referred to as "suicide doors." Thewheelbase was increased from 106" to 112" giving the car a longerappearance. A redesigned grille was now completely separate fromthe radiator. It was mounted at a sharp angle and fully chromed.The fenders were now skirted and the chassis components werehidden. The new Model 40 had a dramatic and modern look. Slightupgrades continued for the 1934 models including a slightlyredesigned grill and hood. The 1934s also had an upgraded V-8engine with an increase of 10 horsepower due to a new intakemanifold and two-barrel carburetor. TheDeluxe Fordor Sedan was one of the most popular models offered in1934 and had a base price of 625.00. As a deluxe model, this sedanfeatures a chrome windshield, dual rear taillights, dual horns, awood-grained dashboard and matching wood-grained garnishmoldings-all features not seen on the standard models. This exampleis also equipped with a factory accessory metal spare tire coverand bumper guards. This 1934 Ford is an extremely clean andwell-presented example that has been well cared for since therestoration was completed. The body, fenders and hood are allgenuine, Henry Ford steel. All of the sheet metal components arevery straight and solid. The doors fit the body well and all fourfenders align properly. This car sits right and looks great fromall angles. The mileage indicated is about 62,000, which may beoriginal but cannot be guaranteed. The older black paint has a fewslight blemishes but still shows nicely. It presents well with aneven gloss throughout all of the body panels. The original 17" wirewheels have been recently repainted in an appropriate apple greencolor and fitted with newer, white wall tires. This car is accentedwith a correct, matching apple green pin stripe. The car retainsall of its proper and correct 1934 components including theoriginal chrome grill, bumpers, horns, stainless steel headlights,cowl lights, and taillights. All of these items have been restoredand still present well. On the inside, the car was properlyrefinished at the time of restoration with a period correct mohairinterior with a matching headliner and door panels. The interior isin very nice condition and shows only minimal signs of useincluding a small flaw on the top rear of the drivers seat. Thedashboard and original garnish moldings have been restored with aproper wood grained pattern. The dashboard has its originalinstruments and controls. The windshield wiper motor and visors arecurrently missing but replacements are readily available. The rearpassenger compartment has it original ashtrays. All of the interiorhardware is correct and proper for 1934 including the door andwindow handles, door locks, assist straps, etc. The glass is invery good condition and the windows operate properly. Under thehood, the 21 stud, flathead V-8 engine starts easily and appears torun well. The engine bay is very clean and has been recentlydetailed. Underneath, the frame and chassis components show thetypical signs of cosmetic wear that one would expect from an olderrestoration but are still clean and presentable. Careful inspectionshows that this was always a solid and well cared for automobile.The 1933 and1934 Fords represent a benchmark in prewar automotivestyling. Collectors have appreciated these models for many decadesand stock, unmodified examples rarely become available.
