The body and chassis on this example are exceptional and free of any rust concerns. We find no signs of repair or patchwork anywhere. It did start life with a 389ci Tri-Power carbureted engine, although the original block was replaced with a later generation 1969 date-coded 400ci with "48" heads during a complete restoration in 2004. The factory issued 1965 intake &Rochester carburetors with identification tags, transmission, and rear axle all remain. It is nicely dressed with a chrome air cleaners & valve covers, GM tower clamps, inspection markings ,Delco-Remy charging components, and more! Onlookers with be hard-pressed to discover anything amiss under this hood.
History of the car starts where it sold new to Mr. CJ Kunz of Godfrey, IL very late in 1965. It later made its way to the Chicago area, on to Minnesota years later, and then back to Moscow Mills, Missouri resident Ronald Rogers who took the liberty of cosmetically restoring a very worthy example back to original. It appears to have been garage kept for most of its years of ownership and remains wonderfully rust free from a dry lifestyle. It retains factory window glass, body trim, perfect fitting body gaps, chrome bumpers, grill, and rear taillight panel. Sadly, the previous owner pasted away with a proud GTO collection that included a 1966 GTO Convertible, 1969 GTO Judge, and a highly optioned 1970 GTO Convertible, along with others.
The St. Louis Car Museum has taken the liberty of freshening this example with an all new exhaust system, complete ignition system (spark plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, condenser, and timing adjustment), new brake fluid, new engine oil/filter, fuel filter, new foam carburetor air filters, oil pressure switch, oil temperature sensor, new valve cover gaskets, new main carburetor accelerator pump, one front wheelbearing, both front wheel seals & lower ball joints, sway bar bushings & end links, and a few other small items and detailing touches. It continues to represent itself beautifully in all respects as an honest original GTO, and drives down the road exactly the same! Considering the true age of the restoration, it is quite remarkable! The rear trunk compartment is just as detailed with floor mat, spare tire, jack and tire changing tools. It will come with original PHS documentation supporting this car as impressively optioned with go fast goodies! Please call with any additional questions or requests for extra information. We appreciate your interest and thank you in advance for your business!
