Gorgeous frame off restoration completed in 2005! Remains a superb example with excellent drive characteristics! Fitted with original, number's matching engine, 4-speed transmission, complete wet weather gear, radial tires, heater, fogs, Brooklands windscreens, and more! Great road car with only 1,068 miles on the restoration!
Debuting in 1950, the TC-series was replaced by a slightly larger TD-series. This new design offered both left-hand-drive and an independent front suspension for the first time. They also included smaller, more tire-friendly 15" wheels and a wheel track that was 5 inches wider promising better road handling! This beautiful 1953 MGTD roadster comes finished in MG Red over Tan leather hides and matching Tan Stayfast cloth top. Powered by its original, number's matching 1250cc XPAG straight4-cylinder engine with twin SU carburetion producing a modest 57horsepower at 5200 rpm. Features include 4-speed manual transmission, front fog lamps with badge bar, fender-mounted rearview mirrors, proper vinyl covered dash with original steering wheel and correct Jaeger gauges, Lucas amp meter, and chrome MG hand grips; twin Brooklands racing windscreens, Plexiglas wind wings, electric wipers, 15" disc wheels with polished chrome center caps & trim rings, 165R15 radial tires, rear luggage rack, cabin heater, added red seat belts, leather shift & e-brake boots, and a complete canvass top set with side curtains.
This MG TD was treated to a complete frame-off restoration beginning in March of 2005 with a complete reconditioning and replacement of the original wooden body structure and sheet metal. It was repainted in April 2005. The entire chassis was disassembled and fully rebuilt, along with the complete drivetrain. This included the entire brake system, suspension & steering system, brass fuel lines with new SU fuel pump, complete wiring harness from front to back, all new exhaust, brand new tires, and more. Nothing on this car has been altered from original right down to the correct generator charging system, MG intake and exhaust manifolds, canister oil filter, and side discharge distributor cap! All body and engine tags are clearly present and unaltered making this largely original example a genuine driver investment! We would like to add that the gauges were rebuilt to be in excellent working operation without the normal sticking needle indicators. The engine performance is truly dialed in and was recently uses on three 25 mile excursions here in the heart of St. Louis without fault.
Today, the car shows only1,068 odometer miles since restoration. Included with the car will be an owner's manual and complete photo documentation of the restoration. It's ready to be enjoyed in confidence immediately! Please feel free to call with any questions.
