This nicely restored 1930 Cadillac LaSalle Series 340 carries aFleetwood-built roadster body complete with rumble seat. Loadedwith accessories. Beautiful maroonleather interior with blackHartz cloth top and boot. Full CCCA Classic. The LaSalle,Cadillac's famous companion car, was named after the Frenchadventurer who explored the Mississippi River Valley in 1682. TheLaSalle was introduced by General Motors in 1927 and was thevehicle that was responsible for the creation of the new Art andStyle Department. This new department was headed by a young HarleyEarl, who would later become one of the most respected figures inautomotive design. Earl's designs for the new LaSalle were inspiredby the European built Hispano Suiza, which was one of the bestlooking vehicles during the 1920s. The new LaSalle was built on ashorter chassis and used a smaller V-8 engine than the Cadillac.The LaSalle was designed to bridge the gap between the Buick andthe Cadillac, although it more resembled the Cadillac than theBuick. The 1930 model year saw the LaSalle being offered insixteen body styles. Nine body styles built by Fleetwood and theremainder built by Fisher. All of the 1930 LaSalles were built onthe 134" wheelbase chassis. This 1930 LaSalle Series 340carries a Fleetwood-built roadster body identified as Body StyleNumber 4002 Based on the information provided on the originalbuild sheet, this is a very early 1930 model and was delivered onOctober 18, 1929. It was sold new in St. Louis, Missouri. The carretains its original engine number 606555. On the firewall is theoriginal Fleetwood body tag, which identifies it as the 82ndroadster body built by Fleetwood in 1930. Today, this car stillretains its original engine and original roadster body as specifiedon the build sheet. This example is an nice, driver qualityrestoration that has been used very little since the restorationwas completed. The body appears to be in very solid condition andhas been properly restored. Both doors fit the body with even gapsand margins. The hood aligns properly with the cowl and theradiator shell. The fenders fit the body well and show no signs ofdamage or repair. The body is finished in metallic moonstonegray and maroon. The paint presents extremely well but does havesome flaws in certain areas, particularly around the door jams. Thechrome accessories are in excellent condition showing little signsof corrosion or wear. The maroon leather upholstery andinterior are in excellent condition. The black Hartz convertibletop and matchingbootappears is also very nice and fits the carwell. The dashboard has been appropriately restored and is fittedwith a proper set of gauges and controls. The correct 340 cubicinch/ 90 horsepower V-8 engine shows some signs of cosmetic wearbut appears to have been well maintained and shows no signs ofneglect or damage. The engine is complete and correct with itsproper carburetor, vacuum tank and distributor. The chassis showssimilar signs of use but is generally clean and presentable. This LaSalle is fitted with several period accessories includingsix wire wheels, a pair of Trippe driving lights, a rear mountedluggage rack, dual, side-mount spare tires, a rumble seat, a golfbag compartment, a radiator mascot, a stone guard, and white walltires. All LaSalles built from 1927 through 1932 are consideredto be Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America. TheFleetwood roadster is considered to be the most desirable of allthe LaSalle body styles and it is believed that less than 10authentic examples exist today.
