1966 pontiac gto

Gorgeous triple black convertible! Fitted with power steering &brakes, Ride & Handling Package, tilt column, Rally I's wrapped in redline tires, 4-speed manual transmission with center console, upgraded tri-power carburetion and Vintage Air conditioning, 3.55Safe-T-Track rear axle, and more! What a beauty!

Leading into the third year of sales, the GTO continued to find sales soaring in popularity. Because of this, GM finally gave the GTO its own model line versus being a performance package option for the Lemans model series. Also in 1966, Pontiac was already developing a new engine for the 1967 production year making this the last of the 389ci V8examples ever made! Moreover, it would be the last GTO available with a tri-power carburetion option for the horsepower hungry buyers! The stacked headlights, new aggressive grill and louvered taillights made these cars as sinister as they iconic to the muscle car collectors!

This very sharp 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible is finished in Starlight Black with Black Vinyl bucket seat interior and matching Black convertible top! It is brilliantly accented with a single red pinstripe. Options include original WT-code 389ci-4bblV8 mated to correct Muncie M20 wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, and upgraded YH-code 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end! As with many cars of this generation, it has been upgraded to the correct GM intake and Tri-Power Rochester 2-Jet carburetion to increase horsepower to 360 horsepower. Other features include power steering, power brakes, power convertible top, correct 14" Rally I wheels with 215/75R14 Coker Classic redline radial tires, factory Rally Gauges with dash tachometer, tilt column, center console with interior courtesy light, trunk compartment light, custom seatbelts, Ride & Handling Package, AM/FM radio with power antenna, day/night mirror, dual outside mirrors, and rubber floor mats!

This gorgeous, rust free example hails most recently out of Sarasota, Florida, where it was lovingly driven and enjoyed! Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, we elected to replace what appeared to be the factory, original carpet due to some fading in the typical exposed areas, along with adding a complete Vintage Air conditioning system to increase functionality year round! The full kit was expertly installed by Auto Air in Union, MO with outstanding results! This car already came with a factory optioned Heavy-Duty fan & clutch, so a new radiator shroud implemented created the perfect air flow to run cool even at highway speeds for the 80 mile drive back to our showroom in 90+ degree heat! The body was repainted to Starlight Black from original L-code Marina Blue approximately 15year ago and continues to look outstanding today. More importantly, we see no sins in the body work to represent any past rust damage hidden beneath. The same is easily recognized underneath the car with what appears to be original floor pans, inner rockers, trunk floor, frame rails, etc. A remarkably tight and solid example! Only a few minor touch ups on the body will prove it has been driven and enjoyed, as it still looks incredibly sharp overall! The interior upholstery may be all original with exception to the carpet which we opted to replace in our upholstery shop. The convertible top &boot are both relatively new and appear as new. The factory original dash with wood veneer trim, center console, gauge cluster, and sun visors also remain present and in very good condition. The exhaust now breathes through new FlowMaster mufflers with recently replaced tailpipes and chrome tips.

This is a very unique opportunity for a GTO collector! If you are looking for a solid, triple black convertible with all the options you should ever want, look no further! Glossy black paint, high performance engine,4-speed manual transmission, convertible roof, and air conditioning!?! Please call with any additional questions or to make arrangements to view this car in person! Act quickly and thanks for looking!
