It grew inoverall size while maintaining the same wheelbase as the prioryear, but was now 1.5 inches lower to the ground. With 10 engineoptions available, and several special performance packages tochoose from, Ford was not going to let many showroom buyers offerexcuses not to buy a Mustang! A new Mach I package replaced the GTpackage as the premier performance option. This packageautomatically added a flat black hood with lock-down pins, reflective body side stripe, competition suspension, chrome wheels,color-keyed outside sport mirrors, and pop-open gas cap! Itrequired the Sportsroof body design and nothing less than a 351ciV8 under the hood of course! Buyers flocked to showrooms to haveone of their own! Original special ordered as a R-code Mach I 428 SuperCobra Jet Ram Air equipped with the Drag Pack option, C6 automatictransmission, and 4.30:1 Traction-Lok rear axle ratio, we believeit spent the better part of its early life at the dragstrip! Aswith many cars pushing their limits to beat the competition, thiscar said goodbye to its factory-appointed drivetrain. It made itsway to Georgia in the 1980's spending many years in the Atlantaarea and later with collector Don Harper owning it from June 1989before it was picked up by Creative Auto Restoration of Odessa, TXin approximately 2003 where it would be completely restored tofactory standards with very professional results! Once completelydisassembled, media blasted, it was beautifully prepped & paintedin Candyapple Red, then reassembled with all new weather stripping, window seals, completely fresh interior upholstery, padded carpet, new console, fresh dash using original gauges, seat belts, andwindow glass. The original drivetrain was replaced with a fullyrebuilt 1968 date-coded 428ci V8, 1969 Holley 730cfm carburetor,1969 model year 4-speed transmission, and 1969 date-coded 3.50:1rear axle assembly. With remarkable attention to detail and acompleted build in 2005, it stayed in Odessa, TX with new ownerMurry Erickson also from Odessa, TX. With only modest use andsouthern, garaged lifestyle, it continues to show very well today!Anyone is welcome to their own inspection, but we were marveling atthe solid structure of the entire body, floors, and chassis onceunderneath this Mustang. Itmakes for a super confident investmentand perfect weekend driver to truly enjoy. Just prior to itsarrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, it received a fully rebuiltfront end & alignment, complete brake inspection, new frontcalipers, brake master cylinder with new booster, & rear drumadjustment, new front wheel bearings, new billet flywheel, brandnew clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, & throw-out bearing, andshifter linkage. The carburetor was fully rebuilt with completeignition system tune up to include new spark plugs, points, andtiming adjustment. All new drive belts and fresh fluids from theengine to the rear axle were changed. It starts and runs fantastic, goes through the gears ultra-smooth, with confident brakes & roadmanners! The under hood presentation is very attractive with allthe proper stickers and details in place. Please feel welcome toschedule a chance to view this investment worthy Mustang in person,or call with questions and offers.
