With a more refined, sleeker body thatincorporated the headlights fully into the more squared frontfenders, along with a full steel hood that curved downward to meetat the grill featuring horizontal grill bars versus vertical, andjust tighter body lines overall. They were toughed in alladvertising as being bigger and stronger than their predecessors,and rightfully so! Fittedwith its original 216.5ci Inline 6 cylinder engine mated to the3-speed column shift manual transmission, it delivers no less thanexpected power and reliability! Features include gorgeous chromegrill, chrome front bumper with guards, and chrome rear bumper,along with stained & polyurethaned rear oak bed, custom oak bedrails, dual outside mirrors, spot light, upper cowl vent & driver'sside cowl vent, turn signals, dual sun visors, vacuum wipers,Chevrolet heater/defrost system, interior cab light, rubber floormat, Chevrolet exhaust turn-down tip, interior driver's armrest,full dash instrumentation, and more! The story of this special5-window Deluxe truck built March 1950 in Janesville, Wisconsinstarts with us in October 1978 when Edith Garrett of Oskaloosa, IAsold it to Charles Perdue of Rock Island, IL with only 37,724 mileson the odometer. Charles who was moving from Rock Island, IL toOskaloosa to take a teaching job decided to service and utilize thetruck sparingly in the small town adding just 520 miles to theodometer before moving again in August 1983 to Manitowoc, WI. Astime passes, the decision to sell the truck was made in March of1987 to Kenneth Carson, who officially began a slow cosmeticrestoration over the next 6 years. Only 39,000 miles wereshowcased on the odometer proving it was a low mileage candidateworthy of preservation. Beginning with small items like newhubcaps, interior pieces, chrome lamp bezels, bumper guards, andother miscellaneous weather stripping being replaced, it wasfinally decided to be repainted for the first time in May 2004 byBeck's Repairs & Auto Sales. Finished in September 2004 withprofessionally replaced cab corners, new fender welting, brand newchrome grill, refinished interior in semi-flat brown, newupholstery & door panels, the final results really proved worthyfor this owner who would hang onto it for another 12 years! Theodometer records support it tallied just 39,894 miles before theinstrumentation was sent to Jim Carter's Antique Truck for acomplete rebuild. In the case of the original core being replacedfor a new speedometer/odometer unit, the odometer today now onlyreads 617 miles. By 2005, a new stained oak bed was installed, andin 2007 an oak bed rail rack added. When the truck arrived to ourMuseum in 2016, the engine oil/filter where replaced, a new batteryinstalled, front wheel bearings replaced, new muffler fitted, freshvalve cover gasket installed, and a complete detail of allcomponents initiated. It is a gorgeous truck with wonderfullysolid attributes! It is complete with original owner's manual,Chevrolet accessory & installation guide, official accessory pricelist, Chevrolet travel log by Rand McNally along with jack,matching spare tire, & lug wrench!
