It was orderedwith a host of options, and a few dealer installed features afterit was delivered on April 21, 1966, just 10 days after it wasbuilt. Factory options included GT Equipment, Hi-Po 271hp engine,limited-slip differential, red band nylon tires, interior dcorgroup, deluxe seats front & rear, AM radio, tinted windshield, hazard switch, 2-speed wipers, styled steel wheels, and Rally Pactachometer & clock. Dealer installed accessories included a FordStudio Sonic Sound System with rear speaker & reverb box mounted inthe trunk, vinyl roof, rubber floor mats, and a hood safety lock toprevent anyone from opening the hood once the car was locked. Thisoriginal owner enjoyed driving and maintaining it before partingways to the second owner in April of 1969. This new Santa Clara,CA owner meticulously accounted for every mile, service, gas fillup, and gas mileage in a small notebook for the next 17 years!Incredible! It was then sold in 1986 to a Fresno, CA airline pilotwho cared for it 14 years until selling to a childhood friend inJune of 2000. Only these 4 owners account for this beautifullysurvived K-code Coupe nearly its entire life until it passed on toits most recent collector in August 2014! Five total owners fromnew! It was said to have been raced some by the original mechanicowner on weekends early on, but we stress that it was never abusedor altered from new. The only replacement items on the car includethe radiator (original included), fuel pump (original included),wheel trim rings, brakes, valve covers (originals included), and afew other wearable items. The original carburetor was rebuilt byPony Carbs. The double redline tires are brand new having only afew hundred miles on them. Always meticulously maintained! EachK-Code Mustang had a special badge on their front fenders that readHIGH PERFORMANCE 289. No doubt about it, the K-Code Mustang wasall about performance and was not available with air conditioningor power steering. And you couldnt buy one with an automatictransmission until the 1966 model year. Prior to that, all K-CodeMustangs were 4-speeds only. The engines included upgradedpistons, cylinder heads, Autolite 4100 carburetor, solid lifters &cam, special crank, connecting rods, exhaust manifolds, and more!In addition, one look under the hood and youd notice the chromeair cleaner and valve covers. Hiding behind the engine lays ahigh-performance clutch; heavy duty driveshaft, 9 reardifferential, and suspension. With an advertised 271hp at itsdisposal, it was easy to tell this car from other 289 poweredMustangs of the day. The GT Package also had some serioushardware, namely a 16:1 quick ratio steering box, front discbrakes, heavy duty suspension, springs, shocks and sway bar, GTornamentation, fog lights, and trumpeted dual exhaust comingthrough the rear valance panel. This particular "K-car" is trulyspectacular and among the best driver examples you will find. Allproper original K-code items are present and accounted for, anotherrarity. The optional 8,000 RPM Rally Pac gauges are original andstill operational. These days collectors of the Ford Mustang lookback fondly on the K-Code. Unfortunately, only a limited number ofthese cars were manufactured. As such, they are highly soughtafter! This particular car is registered in the K-code registryand comes complete with all original tire changing equipment in thetrunk, the original window sticker from Thompson-Fauskee Ford, original California black plates & dealer frame, written ownershipdocumentation, service records, and registration documentation. Please feel welcome to call with additional questions or in personinspections.
