Along came American Austin in 1930with this very concept in mind. Under the license of British AustinMotor Company, they produced a select lineup of uniquely charming, fuel efficient vehicles fitted on a 75 inch wheelbase powered by a747cc Inline 4 cylinder engine. Tipping the scales at only 1,300lbsand offering 14 horsepower, the American Austin was an earlysuccess selling some 8,000 units during its first year. Rebuilt from top tobottom, it starts with utter ease, and runs just wonderfully! Thedesign of the American Austin was created by Alexis de Sakhnoffskywho influenced the works of the Cord L29 Hayes and LeBaron-bodied1934 Packards. This Austin's body lines are very characteristic ofthe round, sweeping curve on the body sides made famous byDuesenberg coach built bodies. The front grill carries a very fluidcurve smoothly around the fenders, down & under the front grill, and back again to the opposite side. The rear, recessed area thatencompasses the spare tire is extremely pleasing to the eye aswell! It's a remarkable little car that will win smiles at any showit attends!
