When Plymouth gave their designers, including contributions by renowned Chip Foose, an open invitation to create a modern-day Hot Rod, the process of bringing such a visionary car all the way to dealership showrooms was a lengthy one! The design itself was a terrific success at the Detroit Auto Show for multiple years before going into full production for the 1997 model year. These vehicles are unique with a lightweight, extruded aluminum chassis, rear-mounted transaxle with near 50/50 weight distribution, and an open front wheel design with fenders reminiscent of street rods built in the 1930's!
It developed a surprisingly potent amount of power from an aluminum 6-cylinder engine producing 253 horsepower and 255 ft. lbs. of torque! It can launch this 2-seat roadster to 60mph in just 5.9 seconds! As production continued year to year, updates to the design from the factory included new dynamic shocks & springs for a smoother ride, lower fiction ball joints, black bumpers, better alternator, and new torque converter. Built in limited quantities, the Prowler became an instant collector piece!
We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this 2001 Chrysler Prowler finished in very desirable Mulholland Blue over gorgeous Charcoal leather interior and Blue convertible top. Fully featured with factory equipment that include the High-Output 3.5L V6 engine, 4-speed AutoStick transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, power rack & pinion steering, air conditioning, front airbags, updated Kenwood AM/FM/CD player, cruise control with steering wheel mounted controls, AutoMeter tachometer, auto dimming mirror with compass/thermostat, and staggered chrome 5-spoke wheels measuring 17x7.5” up front and 20x10" at the rear! This example still operates on its factory original Goodyear Eagle GS-D tires measuring 225/45R17 and 295/40R20 respectively.
These cars were produced for only 5 years with production ending in approximately November 2001 while finishing the 2002 model year run. Because Plymouth was being phased out as a manufacturer, the 2001 and 2002 examples are branded by Chrysler. Excluding the pilot cars, only 11,578 were sold to the public. Of those, just 1,178 would be sold with special Mulholland Edition package option that included Midnight Blue Pearl paint, light blue pinstripe, and the only Prowler built with color-matched convertible top in Blue for 2001.
This Prowler will come with an original owner's manual, official service manual, & copy of the original title showing it sold to the original purchaser in April 2002 with just 13 miles on the odometer. The odometer today displays 7,148 actual miles. If you missed your chance to buy one new or simply insist on buying cars that are just about perfect for your own private collection, this wonderful opportunity should not pass you by! Act quickly!
