1969 plymouth road runner

Named for the popular Warner Brothers cartoon character, the Road Runner, Plymouth manufactured it with no frills and few amenities to save on cost and weight using the Belvedere platform. It would have the cartoon's famous “Beep Beep” sounding horn as standard equipment of course! Known for being far less fragile than its competitors at Ford and Chevrolet, the Road Runner was preferred by those who desired serious street applications in high-performance cars and is fabled to have been the favorite of Moon Shiners based on its power, light weight, ground clearance, and greater durability than its law enforcement counterparts. It would hit showrooms for the first time in 1968 with Plymouth engineers hoping to see 20,000 units produced. Their popularity achieved more than twice that figure! And today, these early Road Runners continue to be a favorite among MOPAR collectors and muscle car enthusiasts alike!

Offered here is a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner Hardtop finished in desirable and code correct K2- Vitamin C Orange over H2W- Premium White vinyl bench seat interior. The A15 code found on the fender tag denotes that it was a Spring Special-ordered vehicle by lacking a vinyl roof from the factory by being matching body color instead, along with unique V6W- White horizontal body side stripes. Powered by a 383ci-4bbl V8 engine producing a factory rated 335 horsepower mated to the 833 4-speed manual transmission and 3.91 Sure-Grip axle! This Road Runner comes with only the general go-fast amenities to include power steering, blacked out V21-Performance Hood Treatment, standard solid state AM pushbutton radio with rear seat speakers (upgraded to Custom AutoSound AM/FM/Bluetooth head unit), heat/defrost, chrome 15” Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in staggered BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 235/60 up front and 225/60 at the rear, front sway bar, day/night rearview mirror, along with front and rear seatbelts.

It showcases an older cosmetic restoration completed in approximately 1998 that has held up extremely well over the years. By retaining all original sheet metal, the panel gaps and fitment remain as it left the factory; very tight with everything opening and closing perfectly. All window seals and soft body weather stripping were installed upon the approximate completion.

More recently in April 2023, it received comprehensive mechanical servicing to include a new all new braking hardware and shoes, front wheel bearing & seals, rear end pinion seal, new starter, rebuilt power steering pump & new hoses, and coolant replacement. The new owner who purchased at that same time frame out of Fort Worth, TX elected to take it a step further after bringing it back home to St. Louis. He would install a new Edelbrock 750cfm carburetor, new intake manifold gasket, fresh spark plugs and plug wires, air filter; correct style battery and new battery tray, correct valve covers with new gaskets; new voltage regulator, coil, alternator; new timing chain kit & oil seal; thermostat & housing, new water pump and gasket, cleaned/repaired original radiator with new OEM style upper/lower hoses & heater hoses, new hose clamps, then finished with a complete engine detailing and decal set for a show worthy presentation!

Behind the engine, the 4-speed transmission would be completely rebuilt by Mike Scheile of MT Transmissions, with all new shifter linkage, clutch assembly with throw-out bearing, and resurfaced flywheel. It would receive newly machined driveshaft yokes & U-joints, transmission mounts, and new flywheel dust cover upon reassembly along with a safety loop for added protection. Topping off the underside would be a new OEM exhaust system with polished tips provided by Accurate Exhaust Products! This was all finalized over the past 24 months! All fluids are fresh from throughout the entire driveline.

A solid and reliable performer with a beautiful under hood presentation! It will come with an accurate breakdown of the fender tag and current component parts, reproduction window sticker, recent service & parts records, as well as copies of original Plymouth advertising. Act quickly, we never keep these Road Runners very long!!
