Big luxury cars were the hallmark of American built classics leading into the 1970's. Whether a Ford Thunderbird, Chevrolet Caprice, or upscale Cadillac Eldorado, you were going to get plenty of iron wrapped around plenty of features and options. Big cars meant big engines, big trunks, huge interior cabin space, and a comfortable road feel. Not wanted to miss out in all the fun, Lincoln redesigned their Continental to have considerably more style for the 1969 model year. Branded as the Mark III model, it was 6 inches longer than its Ford Thunderbird counterpart which provided ample interior and trunk space. The trunk deck lid presented a spare tire contour, although it was only for looks. The hood itself measures six feet long giving the luxury Continental the striking long hood/short deck proportions indicative of the period. The final year of the Mark III would come in 1971, with some 27,091 units built. Sales of the Mark III were brisk proving it was a success for Lincoln, giving its main competitor, the Cadillac Eldorado, a run for the money.
Offered here is a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III finished in Black over Black nylon tricot fabric/vinyl combination, with a matching black vinyl roof. Factory appointments for the Continental Mark III were abundant. Starting under the hood, lucky owners would find a massive 460ci V8-4bbl engine mated to the Select-Shift automatic transmission producing 365 horsepower and 500 lb. ft. of torque through a traditional rear-wheel-drive differential! Additional factory features include standard climate-controlled air conditioning, power windows, power steering, full wheel covers, Sure-Track power brakes, and Cartier electric clock. Optional equipment on this example includes power locks, power trunk release, Twin Comfort power seats, and AM/FM Stereo radio.
This 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III for sale hails out of the California area most recently, before landing in a Madison, WI collection 2018. It is showing just 52,104 miles on the odometer which appear to actual based on the originality and limited wear visible on the car. Recently tuned in 2019 with a Holley 600cfm carburetor, new plug wires, fresh engine oil & filter, retrofitted air conditioning to R134a, and brand new Hankook Optimo 1” whitewall radial tires, it continues to impress out on the open road! You would be hard-pressed to find a more luxurious road car from the early 1970's that provides such class, power, and comfort! Highly collectible today, and one we anticipates not sitting on our showroom very long! Astute buyers should act quickly on this one!
