On March 9th, 1964, Lee Iacocca made himself an eternal place in American automotive history with the release of a car that would reshape the design and performance expectations for all automobiles sold within the North American market within the next forty years—the Ford Mustang. One of the best investments in a classic muscle car! Loved and adored the world over, good examples are becoming hard to find!
Offered here is a splendid 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback finished in factory, code-correct Rangoon Red over Red Vinyl interior. Powered by its original C-code 289ci-2bbl V8 engine factory rated at 200 horsepower which is now mated with a Tremec T-5 transmission offering added performance and better cruising speeds in any condition! Options and features include factory air conditioning, power steering, 2.80:1 rear axle ratio, brand new 14” chromed styled steel wheels wrapped in Bf Goodrich double redline 6.95-14 tires, front fog lamps, fold-down rear seat, rear pillar vent louvers, Custom AutoSound AM/FM/Auxiliary head unit, carpeted floor mats, and an aftermarket center console with cup holders and storage bin.
This Mustang began life delivered to the Louisville, KY District Sales Office before making its way to Gainesville, FL early in life. It would be meticulously cared for in the dry south, with several handwritten service notes and odometer readings inside the original owner's manual. The exterior has been repainted once before, while the majority of the interior remains all original and is believed to have survived without any restoration. Under the hood, the original engine with all factory components and tags remain present. The factory C4 3-speed automatic was replaced with a 5-speed Tremec T-5 approximately 7 years supplied through American Powertrain. The battery was replaced in 2023, along with rebuilding the 2-barrel carburetor, alternator, and starter in 2024.
Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, we replaced the sway bar bushings and end links, installed all new brake wheel cylinders at all four corners, installed new front & rear brake hoses and bled the brake system with new fluid, new front wheel seals, installed a fresh fuel filter, air filter, new engine oil and filter; installed the new wheel/tires, along with a few ancillary bits as well as new wiper blades. The air conditioning continues to blow cold, and the drivability remains excellent! All features, lights, and instrumentation are in full working order. Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule your chance to see this special Mustang Fastback in person!
