One of the most revered designs to come from the 1930s showrooms would be the 1935 Auburn 851 Speedster. It was quickly adapted and replicated by the 1970s using modern fiberglass molding practices. Using updated engines, chassis, braking components, automatic transmissions, it quickly became a leisurely car to own and drive! Although not exactly cheap, California Custom Coach, based in Pasadena, CA, produced a complete, factory built turn-key Model 876 example in the late 1970s for a hefty $37,500 for a Speedster and $42,500 for their unique 4-passenger Phaeton! Primarily consisting of a Ford drivetrain, suspension, and stretched chassis providing a 127 wheelbase, they provided faithful service to their proud owners driving them down the road!
We are excited to have offered for sale a ready to enjoy California Custom Coach, 1936 Auburn 876 Boattail Phaeton finished in glossy two-tone Almond Beige & Chocolate Brown exterior over Dark Brown Leather interior with off white accent piping. All of which is complemented by a matching Dark Brown Stayfast canvass top. Power comes from a torquey 460ci V8 engine mated to C6 automatic transmission! Options include functional air conditioning, power steering, power front disc brakes, VDO black dial gauges, Alpine CD/AM/FM/MP3/Bluetooth audio system, cruise control, front seat belts, Nardi wood steering wheel, auxiliary golf bag door, rear fender rock guards, sill guards, dual cowl lamps, dual exterior mirrors, hood ornament, fog lamps, and 15 bolt-on chrome wire spoke wheels wrapped in Coker Classic 235/75R15 radial whitewall tires!
California Custom Coach began producing kits for owners in 1976 but elected to make all examples factory turn-key in 1979 to protect quality control and ensure safely finished units. They became known as one of the best replica manufactures in the nation, also adding other vehicles to the lineup over the years which included a Ferrari Daytona Spider.
Today, they continue to be respected as a confident choice for driver enthusiasts worldwide. The Auburn Phaeton seen here was believed to have sold new in California and documentation provided indicates is was with its last California owner from January 1994 through November 2012. This example then made its way to a collection in Iowa where is was used only sparingly. Today, the new odometer reads only 3,372 miles!
This was a unique chance for it's new owners to own a stand-out 1936 Auburn example that continues to run and operate wonderfully with a full dual exhaust system providing a robust exhaust note, new engine air filter, brand new ignition system to include plugs, wires, carp, rotor, and points, new master brake cylinder & booster, new brake fluid, new engine fluids, thermostatically-controlled electric cooling fan, and original Ford 4-barrel carburetion. The vehicle is titled as a 1982 production vehicle. A stellar CCC example ready to enjoy immediately!
